Sleep is one of our Components of Well-Being.  Lupus sufferers have to do everything right.  You can look around you and ask “Why do I have to eat clean, or manage my stress or get enough sleep?”  Your friends eat like crap and stay out all night and seem to be fine.  Two thoughts here.  First: “seems to be”.  An unhealthy lifestyle often doesn’t show it’s ugly affects for years or decades, but study after study shows that it will catch up with you.  Secondly, as someone with lupus, you are predisposed to certain things that others aren’t.  Predisposition is an important distinction.  Many people are predisposed to different problems, from heart disease to diabetes.  But these lifestyle diseases can be managed or eliminated with a healthy lifestyle, and sleep is a critical component of a healthy lifestyle.  The point?  Make sure you get your Zzzzzz’s!

The human body was designed to move.  Not only our health depends on it, but apparently also our happiness.  When in the midst of lupus, with its associated pain and exhaustion, getting out and moving is usually the last thing we want to do, but we have to try.  A little is better than none.  Bed-ridden people usually never get better.  Fight it as hard as possible  Take advantage of those times in-between flares to go for a walk or ride a bike.  Gentle yoga will help both your joints and well-being.  It’s critical for your path to recovery.
